​​Metamusic started with three colleagues reading through a lovingly accumulated stack of pieces for their unusual combination of instruments: saxophone, violin, and piano. During that session, the group discovered that there were some exceptional works, which they delighted in learning and sharing with audiences throughout New York’s North Country. And after performing together several times, these colleagues recognized two essential things: there was a strong camaraderie between them, and that repertory for their combination was somewhat limited. By continuing to unearth more unknown works, seeking out new works to premiere, and expanding the group with different guest performers, the core trio’s possibilities are now almost endless. 

Metamusic plays an eclectic breed of classical music that explores the singing and coloristic possibilities of their instruments. The sounds are lyrical, dance-like, at times jazz-infused, at times experimental, and always exciting.
